I always thought Planet was my favorite but fuck me, it might as well be this one.
This has aged beautifully.

this album is such a ham sandwich
might be overrating it a pinch actually hmmm definitely their weakest Anneke album

I just watched the video for Leaves and crushed again by Anneke. Never fails.

Much love. All Anneke ones are the best ones.

Second half of this is tough though but still, Sand and Mercury's second half is pppffff...

I see Dewi's mid-life crisis is in full flow now (hehe)
seriously this is still rather good and all, but it's been eclipsed by a selection of The Gathering's material following this one. With retrospect, this was a primo choice for my first dip though, it did the job v nicely indeed
I'm a little worried about revisiting it in all honesty, hmm

Do it Demon, it's great. It made my skin softer and I gained some hair back.

You don't need to worry Demon. It's super cute and a very nice first Anneke. I think it definitely holds up. I mean, who could not smile and nod along to Strange Machines?? The In Motions? Etc. Etc.

^^That's the thing. Even though it's a flawed album, the songs do last. Been jamming those songs lately and they still feel fresh.
Also the production is so great, especially the guitars.

Yeah the awkwardness of these bulky prog compositions + Anneke's voice at frequent points struggling to find a purchase on the flow of the song gives it a cute charm, and it's aged quite well as such even though its flaws are as obvious as ever
Just somewhat unfortunate that Nighttime Birds one-upped it in every single regard

Unfortunate?

NB sounds better and it's way more consistent than this but the highs on this one are higher. I mean the first half is god tier.

Change Third Chance for its Alternative version and you have a better album than Mandylion. Otherwise I'd say they're pretty even in terms of quality.

Cutest news ever alert
Mandylion was recently certified GOLD 30 years after its release in NL!!!
"We have some great news to share with you today. Our album Mandylion has officially turned gold in the Netherlands after nearly 30 years!
It's an incredible feeling to know also that a new generation has embraced our music and that it continues to sell after all these years. We are truly grateful for your support, and it means so much to us.
To celebrate this special occasion, we decided to get together at Lux Nijmegen, the place where we recorded our Sleepy Buildings album many years ago. It was a wonderful reunion, and we had a great time catching up with each other.
Thank you Wilko, Ula and Century Media Records for making this happen.
This gold certification is a testament to the timeless nature of music and how it can bring people together across generations."
Cutest pic ever of the line-up from way back then coming together to receive the reward:

Oh, that's great for them!
there's definitely a new generation of fans discovering their music (I know someone quite well in fact! :-))
I am now curiously wondering how their other albums are performing sales-wise
