Fake Train might be my favorite Unwound and not coincidentally perhaps their most Fugazi-adjacent?

Repetition is much more Fugazi fs.
Fake Train outside of Dragnalus is more Jesus Lizard x SY bad trip vibes, although the whole b-side demands you be a pushover for sloppy hardcore like nothing else in the unwound discog

It's all the funky bass/drum interplay going on with Repetition, and I do see it but there's a much more pure punkiness with Fake Train that's always been the Fugazi guiding light. Unwound doesn't seem that interested in it anymore by Repetition, I'm hearing heavy doses of SY there much more than Fake Train

I don't think pure punkiness did define Fugazi to nearly the same extent by the time this + End Hits dropped - walking grooves and measured interplay all the way by that point, both of which are all over Repetition. Unwound sounded their most SY on the Future of What, but the overtones on Fake Train are extremely pronounced where they surface (Honourosis + that trilogy coda), and the straight hardcore tracks are far more manic and ratty than anything Fugazi ever touched - don't feel much natural crossover there, would have an easier time seeing it with your Rites of Spring/Moss Icon emocore but Fugazi never lost their cool in quite the same way

1) Sure Mort, let the friendship begin!
2) End Hits contains the most interesting and experimental ideas Fugazi ever had
3) I only know like 3 Unwound records (plastic ideas, repetitions and leaves). I've been listening to Fugazi for like 16 years now so I'm familiar with their discography and I'm very emotionally attached to them, but I can definitely see Unwound grow on me if I get familiar with their other releases. Unauthorized Autobiography has one of the best bass lines I've ever heard.

It's difficult for me to get through this album (idk why), but every time I hear it, it's better than I think it would be.
