Wax Wings is basically The Way The News Goes 2.0, not sure if it's intentionally so similar, but it's still my favourite of the first 3 so far!
EDIT - Wax Wings is easy top 10 Periphery, it's awesome.

Ah man, this new album is an odd one. Never has something with a lot of punch fell so flat for me. I love Wax Wings and Thanks Nobuo, I'd argue that both of those songs are better than anything on P4 (asides from Reptile). Dying Star isn't actually too bad either. Everything in between just feels like a whole lot of nothing. Kinda how I felt with P3 when I first heard that to be honest.
Those track lengths are seriously ambitious too, just wished they could make something ambitious with them. Probably a 3/5 overall

I don't know what to think about this album! Like P IV, there are some tracks that I will probably never come back to after this weekend (cough cough Silhouette, possibly the worst track this band has ever released). On the other hand, some songs will probably replayed to death like Everything is Fine, Wildfire, Dracul Gras. I'll give it a 4, but it's a really weird uneven 4 lol

apparently I rated this but don't remember listening to it. why is the new one 70 minutes long

silhouette has one of the most comically abrupt and unnecessary key changes ive ever heard lmao but is pretty solid otherwise
|
| |
because it has a gazillion unnecessary garageband codas
i'm still genuinely lost for words as to how awful Silhouette is, but Dracul Gras does stick the landing. one of their best tracks probably

+1 on the garageband codas
not that I mind them but it does add artificial length to the tracks rather than having them as short track interludes

Dracul Gras is better than PIV songs atleast

Love Dracul Gras, but saying Dracul Gras is good is also admitting that Reptile is REALLY good. Sorry johnny, I don't make the rules
|

reptile is also one of the best periphery songs here is my homework assignment

hmmm pretty much finished my first listen
def the most "prog" album they've done for better or worse
also hilariously ironic i was complaining in the p2 thread about the extended outros on every track of that album, not knowing this new album would be an even worse offender

wildfire and zagreus are still my favorites
everything is fine and dracul gras are also flames
wax wings is really cool
dying star and thanks nobuo exist
silhouette is silhouette
i still do not like atropos

thanks nobuo is kind of an underwhelming close but maybe only bc satellites and lune are as good as they are
initial thoughts on a ranking are: dracul gras > everything is fine > zagreus > wax wings > dying star > thanks nuobo > wildfire (would be MUCH higher if it it didnt fizzle out so hard in the 2nd half but the 2nd chorus onward it just doesnt sound like they knew where to take the song at all) > atropos > silhouette (i like this song tho that key change is just so bad lmao). gotta be the first periphery album in a while where the heavy heavy is impressing me much more than the ""gay notez""

the end of atropos sounds like music from return of the obra dinn lmao
