looking back on lyrics like 'In the Water' and 'me vs. maradona vs. elvis' seal the deal for me on Jesse being a creep. the issue shed light on his creepiness, but like even if the evidence was exaggerated he's still a huge creep so I still don't like him
but the music is good so I still totally listen. I'm not about to punish myself for someone else's wrong doing

too bad this album isn't worth defending at the level it's at and jesse lacey is still a scumbag with or without the allegations

The dude seems like a major douchebag

If Jesse was not guilty of perving on a 15 year old, I'm pretty sure he'd have put an "oh btw" in his statement.

I was more referring to the dude "being sorry for inspiring third wave emo bands".

Very good record. What's with all the people (surprisingly not on this site, so much) being like ''Jesse did some fucked up shit! The music sounds terrible now! I hate it!'' I mean it doesn't really make sense and seems like virtue signaling bullshit.
All those butch looking pincushion former emo girls turned hipster are removing their Brand New tattoos in the name of social justice and the records sound bad now to them. They're great people. They dislike pedophilia (of which Jesse isn't even guilty of) but it's a unique position to hold.
I want a shirt to show my own virtue signaling. The shirt will say ''I really oppose murder!''

What Jesse did amounts to grooming, which is all kinds of fucked up in its own right because even if he didn't commit the act of pedophilia, the intentions are parallel. People who want to hate the music now, destroy this CD, whatever - it's their prerogative. I happen to think the album is still a classic - if we blacklist every piece of music created by someone who isn't the perfect role model, we won't have much left to listen to. There is still a lot of music out there written by individuals who have done far worse, and we still celebrate it and discuss it openly as if it's no biggie.
But none of that is meant to excuse the actions of Lacey. Fucked up is fucked up, regardless of how far over the line he went (which was pretty damn far).

Disagree. Pedophilia is really stretching it.

depends on whether or not you think the term pedophilia should be limited to only children (re: Ian Watkins) or anyone under legal age
|
| |
it literally applies to anyone under legal age dude

Of course it should be only for children. People don't talk about it, but it should be common sense that what Lacey did isn't as bad as 30 - 40 year old pedophiles trying to meet up and fuck 13 year olds, for example. There are various layers of pedophilia and they aren't all equal. So I dislike the term in general and apply it to fucking little kids or trying to.
