I really do love the vox here lol.

The vox never bothered me much tbh. Then again, a huge chunk of the album is instrumental anyway due to the expanded bridge/solo sections, so I don't think it matters much regardless

Idk, when it comes to prog albums in particular (and I do consider Death's later work tech/prog), vocals don't bother me much if the compositions themselves are able to make up for it. But of course, I can't say the same for records where the singing is basically the central focus lol

"Ngl, I've never really understood the hype behind A Moment of Clarity in particular"

That's kind of how I feel about Perennial Quest. It's definitely not a bad song but for some reason it doesn't hit the highs of almost every other song off Symbolic

as a massive btbam fan... not sure there is a particular song they've lifted more from than bite the pain. kick the tempo up like 20bpm and the final 90 seconds of that track can be found all over their 2007-2012 era material

Interesting, I've never made that connection before. Any specific songs you hear that in a lot?

My lowest-rated Death album...and it’s still excellent!

Seven albums and they’re all at least excellent: who does that?!?

We miss you, Chuck.

I would say [3] but who's pretending?

Pretty sure this is the first one I heard, and that intro drumming into that sick riff instantly got me hooked on these guys - now my 3rd favorite band of all time

this is so much better than Scream Bloody Gore man. SBG is pretty mid let's be real. It was really cool when it came out but then Leprosy happened, Morbid Angel put out their debut and so did Obituary, leaving SBG in the dust

SBG is better than anything Obituary has ever done easily. That band sucks.
