yeah that was my other candidate, nespithe and human are more on the tech death/progressive side

like an everflowing stream, while amazing, is a bit lacking on the rhythm section side

Nespithe is probably tied with eif for my favorite album anymore. If I had a gun to my head and had to rank them, I'd put nespithe and eif at 1 and 2 on my all- time list. But this and Onward will probably always be at least be top 5.

Gorguts deserve a mention because everything they've done has been at the very least stellar. Obscura and erosion probably both ez top 10 but nothing they've done packs quite as much punch as this or onward

But it is pretty mindblowing that immolation have just been releasing top shelf dm album after top shelf dm album for like 32 years

Hearing Mike Stoklasa and Rich Evans discuss Immolation is beautiful. Maybe we’ll see an RLM/Immo collab at some point.

crossover event of the century

they need to get Kevin bacon to do a review of tremors and then a vigna riff ranking.

‘this is the best pure death metal record ever i'd reckon‘

what’s ‘pure DM’ mean? Does Obscura not count? None So Vile, Onward to Golgotha, Leprosy and Consuming Impulse are better for sure

Presuming Ulcerate, Atheist, post-SH Death doesn’t count

obscura definitely does not count, and no NSV, leprosy and consuming are not better

pure DM is an interesting way to describe this, but I would agree, as with the aforementioned albums by Demon (finally gets something right lol)

An album like Human and Symbolic, while stylistically very different than this, would also fall in that category imo.

Dunno if I'd put this in my top 5 list of DM anymore though. I enjoy Here in After so much more.
