Ulcerate dropping 5 classic albums in a row and motherfuckers still out here waiting for them to drop something big

Defeated Sanity are just god tier musicians. Probably best BDM band ever actually.

Definitely up there for sure.

DS are a good band but the crazy contrapuntal guitar lines and organically mutating song structures here put this album above pretty much everything I’ve ever heard

"Defeated sanity are considerably above Ulcerate on every level"
As much as I love DS, no
I probably shouldn't have started this lol. Theyre different enough that lateral comparisons kinda fall on their face. Different beasts, but the quality of their bodies of work is almost even for me.

I wish these guys had continued on with two guitarists tbh

At times I wish that but I feel like they've still accomplished great things with just Michael on guitars
But tbh, even though I have a couple other ulcerate albums at 5, this absolutely tops the rest

Withered and Obsolete is probably the best song in this style tbh

Stare, Destroyers, And Shrine are all amazing too with just Michael but if they had been able to find a similarly skilled guitarist that they could work with they could have pushed the counterpoint thing a lot further. I would put these 4 albums against any other band’s body of work but I’m selfish and wanted even more from them lol

yea two guitars again would be super ideal, especially after that last ad nauseam

This is definitely one of the hardest bands to get into imo, it's very hard to keep track of anything that happens, they barely repeat a structure or riff within a song, everything is changing nonstop

took a long time for me to get into as well yeah
check stare. probs their most accessible (by this band's standards)

Stare was my gateway album, it took me some time but i 4.5'd that one, i kinda hated it at first lol

Yeah this band is a grower, especially their non-stare albums

Vermis is the onethat's finally hitting me. It was the first Ulcerate album I heard too.
