Still not a fan of the vox on this but I think 3.5 is too low

Those dueling pinch harmonics in the spirit crusher chorus are something else man

Yeah I don't get the hate on the higher pitched vocals here. They're definitely different from earlier albums but still great nonetheless

Flesh and the Power It Holds, To Forgive Is to Suffer, A Moment of Clarity, and Scavenger of Human Sorrow are probably the peak tracks here for me.

My biggest hot take on this album is that Spirit Crusher is actually one of the weakest tracks here 🫣

Found a decent live version of A Moment of Clarity on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX6jH8hBY1c

God damn it Chuck and this band were so peak. When he screams the "God, Why?!" near the end, honestly almost brings a tear to my eye.

This might be the best album ever made with completely unlistenable vox

Had to bump this to a 5.

I like the higher pitched vocals but I can see why they'd grate for some people.

If the final three songs were on par with the first six, this would be at least a 4.5 for me. But yeah... the first six are among the band's all-time best imo (maybe sans A Story to Tell, though it's still great as well), while the final three just land in the category of "fine". Ngl, I've never really understood the hype behind A Moment of Clarity in particular

Flesh and the Power It Holds is still one of my favorite prog/extreme metal songs in general

^ I think it started around 2014/2015 timeframe, when a bunch of users started rating it around the 3-3.5 range and incessantly claimed that it was overrated. Pretty sure JamieTwort and TableGuy (neither of whom are even on the site anymore) led the charge back then

It's a really good album I've just always found the vocals to be unlistenable

But like I said, the rest of it is stellar
