So you can imagine the profoundly empty wretch that actually enjoys hearing this band 10 times a week. It has a sort of beauty to it; perpetually being filled by such a load of nothing.

Even the impossibly high expectations I had didn't tarnish this record. Warm wubs and groovy beats set to beautiful keys and other stuff like African bongos n shit and even some sexy vocals. Beautifully structured with transitions both subtle and exciting. My favorite tronic album from the first listen.

That’s just, like, you opinion, man
And even if it were true, does that in any way diminish the way that I’ve connected with the music? Is it wrong to produce music for financial gain?

You can actually really like the music but not want to listen to it a lot due to the mood of it. Especially if you're a sensitive person.

"I don't like the mood their music puts me in. It's this weird hopelessness feeling. Their music never really inspires or has any hope in it. Not saying it's bad, they are definitely a great band but I don't know how you guys can listen to this a lot. It's a real downer."
I understand this completely. Even though this is my favourite Natty record and the music is profoundly beautiful it isn't really one to lift the spirits, at least not directly. However, songs like "This is the Last Time" and "I Need My Girl" nearly bring me to tears because while they may be depressing they aren't sad in the sense of "the world is awful and I feel like killing myself." It's more like "trouble will always find me but even so, I'll keep going." "Slipped" is pretty much this album's centrepiece but there's a determination to the album as a whole that hits me in ways other Natty records don't. If anything I think Sleep Well Beast is their most depressing record lyrically.

i mean its downtrodden and melancholy but this is pretty mild compared to some other shit like Carissa's Wierd and Giles Corey and Mount Eerie's recent output, etc. this isnt a "happy" album but i dont find it super depressing either.

I mean Julien Baker's new album was one of my favorites last year but I'll be damned if I've listened to it more than 5 or 6 times
