As far as the 'funny' Berninger lines go "I'm a perfect piece of ass" has to be the best

I WAS SOLID GOLD
I WAS IN THE FIGHT
I WAS COMING BACK FROM WHAT SEEMED LIKE A RUIN
I COULDN'T SEE YOU COMIN SO FAR
I JUST TURNED AROUND
AND THERE YOU ARE
I'M SO SURPRISED YOU WANNA DANCE WITH ME NOW
I WAS JUST GETTING USED TO LIVING LIFE WITHOUT YOU AROUND
I'M SO SURPRISED YOU WANNA DANCE WITH ME NOW
YOU ALWAYS SAID I HELD YOU WAY TOO HIGH OFF THE GROUND

Alligator is definitely the prime for Matt's "funny" lyrics

Yeah was just thinking about it now and they sort of disappeared over the years I mean on reflection TWFM is a fucking sad album basically all the way through, rip funny Matt
Convo 16 has some great ones though even if it's not a happy song overall - I always saw it as a really sarcastic, bitter, satirical song. Would fit perfectly with the movie American Beauty

Got my head in the oven, so you'll know where I'll be
Yeah Convo 16 is great. This album might have some of the best National lyrics, not that the others aren't amazing as well though

Oven? I thought it was earth but if it's oven that's some ahrd Sylvia Plath referencing
Lemonworld is probably my single favourite Natty song lyrically although Mistaken for Strangers and also Start a War has my single favourite line and also Graceless FUCK

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's oven haha. What's the reference you're referring to there?
Personally I don't think I could even begin to have a favorite song lyrically, there are way too many to choose from and I only have like 60 years left to live

Sylvia Plath? Poet who killed herself by shoving her head into a gas oven. Influenced the Antlers as well as Natty apparently "SYLVIA GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE OVEN" etc.
From Berninger maybe, in general it's fucking impossible

Sometimes you stay in bad

Still my least favourite of their four masterpieces. I don't know what it is, I just don't find this as emotionally-driven or fun as boxer, trouble, and especially alligator. That said, the first two songs and conversation are among their best

This might be my new favorite of theirs tbh, even though it's their least depressing.
