I'm beginning to think I may have 5d this too soon. It's probably a 4.5. Anthracks' critique actually hits the nail on the head for me

Yeah I've been tempted to 5 it multiple times but I don't know it's just not quite there.
Maybe a little too samey with the overall feel. Like I think EiF's second half feels pretty different from the first, and Shrines' middle section feels different from the first two and last two tracks.
Think it has to do with that straight mid-tempo throughout thing that came up before.

Yeah that's what anthracks said (and maybe someone else idk). Its true....besides maybe exhale the ash, the whole album is very mid-tempo for these guys. They sound more depressed than angry or smth, idk.
Anger is a gift.

i have almost never gotten 'anger' out of ulcerate to be honest

"that's what anthracks said" yeah I put two and two together after the fact on that one haha.
I read some interviews and they said that's actually what they were going for (a very gloomy sort of "slow death" feel). They succeeded but it's possible that they overcommitted just a tad.

tech funeral death metal

That actually sounds amazing, not sure if it's possible though.
I fell off the FD train for a long time but Bell Witch put me right back on it.

Maybe not anger, but at least intensity.
Like the intensity on eif...that shit gets me AMPED THE FUCK UP! this is great dont get me wrong but it doesnt get me amped like eif does lol
I live for those angry, intense bursts...that's just not here as much. Which is fine, they dont need to make eif2.

This has somewhat of a bland start for me, so from the get-go I didn't consider 5'ing it. 4'2 is where I currently stand but this album is definitely a grower.

whats a tech funeral
like when they eject your coffin out of a spaceship?
that sounds like some nocturnus shit maybe

No coincidence that the first track, which does come off as a bit... stagnant(?) is called the *Lifeless* advance.
Again, they may have overcommitted. That being said, the stretch that kicks in around 4:40 brings the feels.

Dissolved Orders is probably my fave on this

That sounds way too meta but who knows. Maybe they were self-aware and cracked a good one.

can we just all agree jamie is the drummer for deathspell omega like lets just say it

@Thalassic mine too, glad to find someone else haha.
@28Gloom they've been doing this a long time, wouldn't surprise me at all. I'm sure *they* don't think it's stagnant in a creative sense but they were probably going for that type of atmosphere.
Plus, I feel like all of their albums before this opened with a powerful gut punch so the fact that this one doesn't immediately makes it feel off somehow, even if the song itself is still really good.

"can we just all agree jamie is the drummer for deathspell omega like lets just say it"
your brain got blunted by too much THC

Drawn Into The Next Void is a close second fave

Phrased that way it makes a lot of sense.
I normally love a slow-paced build-up as an opener to an album but this one really felt formulaic.

“but instead we having spectrum convos about how when you see people with band t shirts u think they are a loser with no fashion sense”
why does this bother you so much? hit a little too close to home I guess

It does sort of feel like a 7-minute long intro track, more establishing the atmosphere than trying to melt your face or get in your head much, but then Exhale comes in right after to take care of that.
