yeah plenty of this is post-hardcore

but see the first few tracks off of Challenge or all of Repetition if youre still confused as to how this band is post-hardcore

some questions are better left unanswered. one question that has been answered is "what if you took Spiderland and fixed literally everything that's wrong with it"

what if spiderland is irrelevant and its pretty off the mark to think of this album in terms of spiderland?

definitely not off the mark - pretty sure "October All Over" is borrowing directly from "Washer" (okay, maybe bit of a stretch to put it that way, but the riffs and sound are certainly reminiscent of one another)

yeah it’s not a genre I’m well versed in so it’s hard to say what is just emblematic of the genre and what is specifically Slint influenced but there’s some pretty clear similarities in the chords and chord progressions at times, totally different playing styles though

I know back when this got repressed and I had the local record store order a copy for me, the guy that was at the register when I went to pick it up I guess had checked the record out at some point in the day after calling me to let me know it was there for me to pick up, and he drew comparisons to Slint or said that it reminded him of them or something like that

yeah I said before you can hear how refined the guitar is on here, and that the band can play off of each other really well cause some of these songs could sound a little bit cluttered otherwise which would work against the atmosphere

lol yeah I can tell. you can hear that this was written guitar-first and that this dude did not dream of being a singer as a kid. at best he sounds like an average 90s band singer, at worst the vocals feel tacked on out of obligation. instrumentals are great though

October all over blew my mind in a way that nothing in the genre has since.

"band sounds pretty refined here, something tells me their early work is probably all the boring parts of this with worse musicianship. this is pretty well put together though"

As if New Plastic Ideas and Repetition have worse musicianship. Why would you even want to put this in relation to their earlier material when this album is the biggest black sheep of their discography.

Checking this out as I had it on the list since their Sput tournament success

Really cool album after one listen, can tell it’s a grower too
