"Akers was so stoked that steve dug it that they rushed into the studed to make this"

I suppose that explains why overlong and underwritten borefests like Leper Affinity and the title track take up much of the album.

This isn’t even close to best atmosphere on an Opeth album lol.

I guess this is one of the more accessible Opeth albums. Which is maybe it's their most popular album and a lot of fans favourite.

This is the album that made them “big” so it’s understandable I guess.

That also explains why Deliverance has such a comparatively low rating.

Agreed Hawks. It's kinda like Metallica's Master of Puppets. That album made them even bigger, even though lots of people (including me) prefer Ride The Lightning.

It shares a lot of problems with Master of Puppets as well.

"I think four songs were virtually ready to go – Bleak, Blackwater Park,Harvest and The Leper Affinity"

I can agree that most popular does not equal best. But I love this album so much. It introduced me to Opeth and other bands I would never had heard of.

More like boring and monotonous composition with little to no texture or personality throughout. That said, this is pretty normie-friendly which explains why Deliverance has such a comparatively low score.

I want to make a comment on this thread because If I make it on the metallica thread, users will buried me alive.

I love MoP but I've never cared about battery or the title track. Well, I started to like the title track in recent years, but I still don't care about battery.

You're forgetting The Thing That Should Not Be which is some of the most one-note dogshit I've ever heard on what many consider to be a "classic" thrash album.
