I think what rules about YFM is how well it played up the emotional aspect of their sound. Axe to Fall did the same thing with the thrashier side of their sound, and considering our individual tastes in music in general, it makes sense I would prefer YFM and you ATF.

As far as aesthetic and atmosphere, this is not even close to as depressing as YFM

Wretched World is their most "depressing" song, and they barely wrote it

atmospherically, I might have to side with you on that. YFM is easily their most dense and sludgy work. But I prefer both Jane Doe and Axe to Fall

YFM has the feeling of sadness you would feel for a friend who's doing heroin or something, this has that guttural self-pitying depressed atmosphere that makes you feel it yourself. This is better. But barely.
