i am entirely too biased to have any sort of reasonable convo on what the best songs here are. that being said, val jester, city middle, and friend of mine are all v underrated.

How well loved is Karen compared to tracks like Geese, Sons and Daughters, All the Wine, Secret Meeting, etc? Always been a highlight for me.

'Friend of Mine' is the worst song here and the album would be better off without it, no cap

'Looking for Astronauts' has good sections and bad sections

tbh this is The National album with the most songs with much better and worse parts, for me they tightened things up a lot more after this one

'How well loved is Karen'

The 'Without warm water in my head, All I see is black and white and red...' part is so good but the rest of the song is only decent for me.

This, as said above, is a recurring theme on this one

On 'Boxer' I can't even say really what the relative strengths of verses/bridges/choruses are...the songs are tight, you wouldn't pull them apart

Saw them last night. The only song they played from this album was Mr. November which is kind of lame

@Doof "it must be me I'm in my head blackbirds are circling my bed" is always popping into my head

I get what you mean about this being messier than Boxer, HV, etc, I think that's part of its charm

Mr. November's verses are so good. Chorus...I think it's good! but how could you not like the drive of those verses

Not a weak track here. Each is essential and fantastic, end of discussion.
