My rating for this has seen the greatest change of any release this year. Initially rated it a 3.5 where it stayed for less than a month...then up to 4 for about a month...then sat on a 4.5 for a few months...fell to a 4 for a few weeks...couple more listens and down to a 3.5 right back where I started.

Think my score followed my opinion of 'Collapse', a song I thought I liked a fair bit for a while (just taken as part of the album as a whole), but which I now believe to be probably the worst tune on this - hence the collapse (ugh) in score

Album is very good but I'd chop 'Collapse' off it (as much as I like the Cure 'Disintegration'-y intro) - vocals are awful and the composition drags on an already slightly overlong album.

Without it I'd rate the album at least a 4. It makes me not want to bother sticking around for the closer which is also bloated and packs a cheesy last few minutes but other than that is solid. This album usually stops with Pillars of Sand for me now.

Psychotropia and Pillars of Sand are such a strong pairing and to place Collapse straight after them is such a boner killer.

Music is subjective man, it isn't a fact that the vocals suck. It isn't that hard to accept opinions

I accept that people can enjoy anything at all, even the flat as a pancake cleans on that tune, or that they can somehow like the section with the dorky clean backing vox as they mix terribly with the growls later on - all a matter of taste or perceived lack of. Not telling anyone what to enjoy. They do suck though, ruin the good parts of the song for me and take the gloss off the back end of the album.
