as massive a floyd fan i've been for a long time, i've never liked tfc
something about it being mostly roger, his singing, his cliche songs about war and his father, just not my thing
not to mention rick isn't even on it, and it shows
i much prefer the entire band working in unison and the discussion of much more interesting themes

Obviously the whole band working in tandem is them at their best and TFC does suffer from a lack of Rick
But there's nothing cliche about the songs imo and his singing is absolutely heart-wrenching

tfc is pretty much the wall minus gilmour's awesome guitar contributions and the engaging concept
and the wall's not even that great to begin with so.. do the math
it's just not very interesting
if it was released as a Roger solo record it would be one of his weaker ones imo

I've never disagreed with something so much, although I guess I do agree with the part about The Wall not being that great. The Final Cut is like The Wall but without all the filler and the silly concept. The Wall may have more contributions from Gilmour but that's really the only thing it has over TFC for me. Plus TFC has my favourite Gilmour solo so it's hardly completely lacking in that department anyway.

I think the thing with the feelings in TFC for me is that while in The Wall you could easily tell that Waters was feeling what he was singing, in TFC it seems for me that he just picked themes that people could relate to and sung them, I don't think that he "feels the feelings that he sings" in TFC, I know is subjective as fuck to tell if a muscician is really feeling his music, and I know my theory sounds weird as fuck sorry haha, just couldn't find another way to explain it
This is completely backwards imo. I mean it's pretty much universally agreed that TFC is stripped back purely to Waters feelings, while on The Wall his feelings/emotions were somewhat hidden behind a fictional concept.

@Jamie: That's why I prefer Rumours over Peter Green's work with Fleetwood Mac. I love the super personal and emotive nature of it
Haha that's actually one of the reasons I prefer Peter Green-era stuff. No musician has ever managed to convey emotion with as much sincerity and intensity as Green imo.
Admittedly the emotion isn't there in the songs where Spencer takes over and same with Kirwan to a lesser extent, but when Green was at the front of things, damn, music really doesn't get any more personal and emotive than songs like Man of the World, Closing My Eyes etc.

I think TFC needs to be understood for what it was. It was never going to be as musically vibrant as Animals, or this. Yet, the passion and emotion Waters uses on that record reaches better heights than he ever did vocally and lyrically.

The Division Bell only has one song that comes close to the quality of The Final Cut imo.
