Listened to this randomly a couple days ago. Still blew my mind and one of the best records ever in the history of music. RIP Chuck.

This is better than Human but Human is still a solid 5.

Don't forget about ITP, best Death record. But you can't go wrong with any of them.

"Schuldiner fans should check the new Contrarian, cool stuff " "Chuck fans need to check After Oblivion"

About to check both of those. Also, you guys should jam Burial (NL) - Relinquished Souls. Old school dm with an extremely heavy Death influence, great stuff.

yeah, from what I gather death's discog is extremely consistent. I'm looking forward to going through it all.

If it's any consolation, Gorgut's first two are better than Death's first three, and Obscura is just as good as Death's best if not better in some aspects. I think Death wins though because From Wisdom to Hate is a dropoff from Obscura, and Colored Sands, while better, isn't as good as Obscura either. Death made a 5 star classic with Human then made another classic with ITP then peaked yet again with Symbolic and finally with TSOP which is probably their creative peak altogether. In other words, Death started off worse, but they consistently made better material from when they started where Gorguts clearly peaked with Obscura.

Obscura and Colored Sands are both superb but I'd say Death, even if they helped pioneer tech death, were nowhere near as technical.

Just because a band is more technical doesn't make them better (or more consistent) though...

Gorguts and Death are two of my fav bands and I'd say they are about equal in terms of consistency, but I like Death more. I think ITP and Symbolic are better than any Gorguts record, and the only Gorguts I like as much as or more than Human or Leprosy are Erosion and FWTH. Of course there's more albums to compare but I mean, saying a Death album is better than Gorguts or vice-versa isn't really saying much.
