"maybe he's staring dismayed at the penis about to get shoved down his throat
prog redefining rape since the 70ssss"
Progressive rock never claimed to be socially progressive, maybe you're right.

2. The Court of the Crimson King
3. I Talk to the Wind
4. Lizard (the whole suite)
5. Exiles

Nice list. Interesting top pick from Larks; I mean, they're all great, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone put 'Exiles' on top. I like the choice, though. Good shit.
I'm also recently realizing that most people (??) prefer LTIA Part 2 to Part 1. But something about that first drum roll and entry of the full band gives me chills that can't be replicated any other way.

Exiles just makes me happy, totally my style.
And Larks' Tongues in Aspic (Part I) is probably in the top 15 for me.
This is a totally arbitrary list off the top of my head and I left off some tracks from this so it wasn't all one-sided and I haven't relistened to any of their albums outside from this and Lizard in a while. Probably super wrong now, but I can't be bothered to check.

Good enough for me. KC is similar for me to Swans, The National, Bowie - I can find something to enjoy from just about everything they've done, even the "bad" stuff. But it's no secret that peak Crimson was '69 to '74. (Even Discipline, which is easily their best post-74 effort, doesn't come close to the worst of the 69-74 stretch.)
|
| |
1. The Court of the Crimson King
2. Epitaph
3. Red
4. Moonchild
5. Larks Pt 2
6. 21 Century Schizoid Man
7. Frakture
8. Starless
9. The Talking Drum
10. Islands
Best I can do from memory
Honorable mentions: Larks pt 1, Circus, I Talk to the Wind,
Sailors Tale, The Night Watch, The Sheltering Sky, Discipline, Indiscipline, Frame by Frame, Easy Money

OHOHO! My guy brought the jokes.
That was actually funny, no lie.

I doubt that's why. You can't hear it on anything but brief aspects of In Utero anyway.
