Tried getting into this multiple times and it always ends up feeling like a drag to listen to. Isis do nothing for me either, feel like I'm missing out on something that should be awesome

If the classic clicks, it really clicks, not in your case though. I hope you dont waste your time getting in genre and listen something else to your taste. This is not an immediate music for anyone not familiar with doom/sludge/post-metal.

I'm certainly familiar with doom metal and some sludge metal bands, Post-Metal tends not to be my thing I think

For the most part yes. Candlemass, Electric Wizard, Boris and Sabbath I listen to a lot. Cult of Luna are another band that I just can't seem to dig

and what resonates with you from those in contrast to Luna and Neurosis?

I honestly have no idea... The aggression in the Neurosis that I've heard so far just doesn't seem to pack much of a punch to me. I can tell it's supposed to sound massive, but I end up getting really underwhelmed. Wish I could be more helpful in my explanation

check Souls At Zero, it's a much better starting point for the band

Alright, I'll check both those out, thanks for the recs It's weird to me that I don't like them, I've been a big metal fan for a while, and I really like atmosphere and drawn out epics
