It's a lot lighter and folkier than the other three I'll agree with that lol.

Ashes has the sickest guitar and snare tones and the best writing

Pale Folklore got the harmonized leads and the charm and spark of a first record. this one has the cold black metal atmosphere. The Mantle just has ED

The first four are all basically tied for me, but I never listen to this band cause I dont have time to be sad and shit, I'm employed

I dunno man, something about that atmosphere they bring on every album that is so melancholic and real, it puts me in a worse mood than actual "sad" bands lol - ESPECIALLY the mantle

I remember driving through an area in Portland one time that was heavily wooded and I immediately put on Pale Folklore, it was only fitting

I associate these guys more with like fall/winter feelings than sad feelings tbh, but I get it lol.

listening to sad music is cathartic and turns the sads into melancholy, which is like sad but prettier

isn't fall/winter notoriously when people are the saddest?

I agree, I like sad music sometimes in a cathartic way

Yeah, but I mean I feel more of a happy nature feeling when I jam these guys instead of sad. Maybe it's just me lol.

I hold this music dear but it's no Katatonia. The closest they got to sounding sad was The Mantle and even that emanates rather with mysteriousness, melancholy and anguish.
