New album is the worst thing ever recorded and gave me aids and cancer and dysentary and fucked my bitch and burnt my house down and ruined my life

You sure those things didn't happen like... regardless of the album listening? Coz like I feel those those things start prior to the run time of the album.

I didn't know this forum could handle emojis. Any time I typed one, the image shits itself and doesn't display.

Hilarious seeing people who started listening to hiphop in 2016 calling the new one generic

Yeah I can admit that the album has faults, but to say it is generic is just disingenuous and a lazy take.

Silent Hill is a very generic trap song but that's it

Mr. Morale is definitely closer to DAMN. than it is to GKMC or TPAB. not sure how i feel about it yet after my first listen, but it feels more like a 6-8 than an 8-10.

saw someone say that its quality is inconsistent and i agree pretty hard. there are a decent amount of really great tracks on here, but there are more than a couple dull and downright boring tracks as well. If this was trimmed up to about 10-12 tracks, i think it could have been much more appealing.

side note: as someone that fucks with Kodak, the most surprising part of this album was not only Kendrick teaming up with Kodak, but allowing him to the most featured person on the album. pretty nuts

People salty that Kendrick not sticking to the GKMC/TPAB style even though Kendrick is in his mid-30s at this point with a kid. His trajectory post DAMN seemed pretty obvious.

He just performed at the Super Bowl and is still writing compelling music and getting people talking. That’s something that artists at his level aren’t doing. Even if you compare Mr Morale to Drake’s CLB, Mr Morale is miles better.

I've seen this take numerous times and I don't get it. Mr Morale is way closer to the GKMC/TPAB style it is to DAMN imo. Obviously has DAMN's sonic palette but overall DAMN is just a collection of good songs while Big Steppers is way more of a sprawling thematic opus. Guess that explains why a lot of people seem to prefer it to DAMN cause they'd rather have that kind of album from kendrick

It's not as bad as I'm making it out to be but it's not anything great either. And for jeetjeet I've been a huge 80s 90s and 2000s hip hop head for 15yrs lol. I no my shit. Forsure stronger than drake clb of course but still pretty underwhelming and by the numbers radio nonsense

Yeah but the sound is what people are going to critique first. Sonically it’s very DAMN but if someone doesn’t like that sound, they won’t even bother looking at the deeper message behind the songs or the albums story as a whole.

Unfortunately for Kendrick, lightning struck twice with GKMC/TPAB in terms of sonic and thematic balance, and it is a tall order to replicate that.

butt.

I can't speak on anyone else, but when I'm comparing the albums, normally I'm comparing the consistency of the quality. So for me, I think GKMC and TPAB are both consistently terrific all the way through. I think DAMN. is pretty inconsistent, and on first listen i feel pretty similarly about Me. Morale as well.

Sonically, I don't think it really sounds like any other Kendrick album tbh
