"I know it's weird saying that, but I enuinely believe a lot of the stuff that era influenced is better than most of the music within the era itself"

Yeah you're right KILL, they'll see the light eventually.

Honestly though most modern prog shouldn't even be called prog in the first place, it doesn't 'progress' at all. I mean even
some of the so called modern prog that I actually like such as Beardfish isn't really progressive.

Yeah, there are a few bands that are adding a few new elements here and there, but for the most part prog has become a blending of the same styles as opposed to actually moving forward. I guess the music was progressive for the time.

@Choccy: It's cool if you prefer modern prog, but once the old school stuff truly clicks I'm sure your opinion will change. Anyway there's a lot of cool modern prog to choose from

Dude the production literally made those albums. Good old fashioned organic sound.

Yep. How can you listen to Mirage and not marvel at the production

Yeah man it sucks, but at least the album jams hard. That moog on Fear is so damn sweet

I'm not saying old prog is bad and I appreciate it for what it is, I just don't see anything so special about it. Granted, I don't see anything special about a lot of newer prog either, but it's clear which one I'm more familiar with. Besides, there are things I'm just not so keen on with that stuff

This album is just a TRIBUTE not a ripoff, plus it's still Opeth's songwriting style even if the core elements and metal/growling aren't there

4 at the very least, not a bad song on there. Still a little too much throwback prog and oversinging are the only real complaints I have

Most people enjoy it from what I've seen being on the other side of the argument. Most polarised song on the album though, alongside Voice of Treason

It's just more mellow than most songs, I meant weird instrumentation and stuff. Maybe on the next album.
