I think separating the art and artist is a dangerous thing in terms of continuous support after details are revealed. For example, Brand New were one of my favourite bands of all time. I recognise that their music is still great, both Deja and Devil and God are fantastic albums that were created by a horrible person. However, I haven’t listened to the band since the allegations came out. If we give the artists support and continue to validate them based on their work, we're making it clear that you can get away with abusing your power and still be loved by the masses.

Horrible albums created by a horrible person*

Separating art from artist should absolutely be a thing. I feel bad for people that can't

Album Rating: 4.5
It's a lot easier to avoid a band if you can find alternatives to them that are similar in quality. For Brand New there's plenty of them.
For say, AILD, you gotta stay in the mid-2000s or fanboy Miss May I or something.

"Leaving Neverland, the testimony of various witnesses and people who worked for MJ, the police and FBI reports."
Where'd you find these testimonies and police and FBI reports?
|
| |
the FBI files on MJ (heavily redacted but still containing a lot):
https://vault.fbi.gov/Michael%20Jackson
rundown of the files plus various testimonies:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/12/22/michael.jackson.fbi/index.html
more recent rundown of the FBI files, which addresses one of the weirdest things, Michael's "Neverland Favorites: An All Boy Anthology" video tape:
https://www.thedailybeast.com/inside-the-fbis-case-against-michael-jackson-eyewitnesses-train-rides-and-an-alleged-sex-tape
it's true that they did not find anything with which to convict him of child sexual abuse. that does not, however, mean that there weren't some really strange things and red flags.
|
| |
I'm going through those FBI files cos that's kind of interesting, but it's funny that that alleged sex tape keeps getting mentioned when that has never actually produced as evidence nor does anyone know what was on the tape despite it being marked "child pornography"
That's kind of the problem with the whole Michael Jackson "investigation". People love bringing up stuff like that when there's zero evidence of it actually existing.

"there's zero evidence of it actually existing"
so the FBI made it up?

People gotta leave the dead man alone and just spin some THRIILLAAAAAAAAA

if any of these things were even so much as rumored (and not actually, yknow, addressed in FBI files) about someone else, like a politician or some shit, nobody would be bending over backwards this hard to defend it.
like, I get people love his music. I love this album. I have no intention to remove or change my rating even though I personally have made the choice not to listen to it again for a while, if ever. but I'd rather say "yeah, we don't know for sure, but it doesn't look good" than "EVERYONE IS LYING!!!"

"so the FBI made it up?"
Seems unlikely that such a thing would exist and yet no one knows what's on the tape nor was it ever entered as evidence, does it not? Did the FBI just somehow lose a Michael Jackson sex tape which would have been crucial to an investigation and/or prosecution? Or was the tape perhaps labelled rather enthusiastically and erroneously and found to be ultimately irrelevant?
And RE: Politicians, no. Because Jackson has been basically endlessly raked through the coals for 25+ years now without so much as a sniff of there being a real case to be made against him except sporadic allegations by disgruntled former associates. It's not like Bill Cosby where a mountain of accusations and evidence grew out of a molehill. This molehill has remained a molehill I imagine for longer than you've been alive.
|
| |
lol there's definitely more than a sniff of a real case against him. again, just because he wasn't convicted and there's not currently 100% definitive hard copy proof doesn't mean there isn't a lot of weird shit that points in that direction.
jesus, if anybody other than Michael Jackson openly admitted they let little boys sleep with them in their bed, nobody would defend it this hard. people just do mental gymnastics because it's MJ and he's a legend. if you deny that you're delusional.
