The honest truth and no hate towards EIF or you guys that praise it so much is a lot of ppl outside this sub don't even consider eif a top album from them not to the same degree anyway. This album and stare are typically the main two albums talked about and held highly. Maybe because they are the albums that shifted into their current sound and success but I don't see fire held to such a large degree most places again it's mostly the last two albums. Most folks that I've seen kinda just act like every album before stare doesn't even exist lol

Well it probably depends on what sphere you're talking about. Even on rateyourmusic.com eif is the highest rated album in ulcerate's discog with nearly 5k votes, and the #2 highest rated dissodeath album of all time behind only Obscura. In more mainstream metal outlets I see Stare and this referred to more often as their masterwork but it has seemed to me, anytime the topic of this band or their albums is brought up in spheres more focused on serious music criticism/appreciation, eif is usually cited as their best.
But like I said I'm sure it depends on where ur looking.

And both stare and cttog have more votes than eif on rym, but a lower rating. So id say on average that it's probably not viewed as their most popular album, but usually their best from a critical standpoint

Not to sleight stare or this at all, I love them too and have both at 5. I just think eif is more fun to listen to, more rewarding over the long term, and definitely more historically important to the genre

Your right Ford it is the highest rated on rym to. But like you said there's of places that mainly talk about this and stare mostly. Reddit mainly from what I've seen. More ppl are probably familiar with these recent albums is what it is and haven't went back and listened to previous stuff. Just different places will be more familiar and praise certain albums more

Yeah, I guess it just depends. EIF is the best dm album ever made imo. It has everything you could possibly want in a dm release to me. But you can't go wrong, it's Ulcerate lol.

In all fairness, their whole discography is incredible. But yeah, the more recent output and EiF are their best.

I think it's all really dependent on what "form" of Ulcerate you want
For sheer cataclysmic intensity, EiF
For morose and icy installments Stare Into Death
For slight post metal drawls Vermis and Destroyers
And for something with an almost human-esque element of personal anguish either Shrines or CTTOG

Dead Oceans specifically has some of the most genuinely satisfying St.Merat drumming even if, comparatively, it is just him fucking DESTROYING that kick lmao
