I think it's more when he makes a bad song they're absolute bottom of the barrel trash, when he makes a good song they're fucking fantastic. dude truly has no middle ground lmao it's one or the other
fully believe anyone who's still riding for Jay Rock in 2024 is in deep denial though, and Earl's verse is the only one on Really Doe worth listening to at all

decimal reviews are so fucking pretentious. 4.8? Do you really feel the need to specify a two-tenth abstention of 'review points' just to suggest a level of objective granularity that obviously doesn't actually exist? Hifalutin bullshit
Why not give it a 4.831512534 or whatever and demonstrate you really thought about it

The amount of polarized opinion is dizzying lol. I just don't see how this is NEAR a 5 for anyone though. I think the context of him being on top of the rap game after the beef has so much to do with it. I guess the "hero to the culture" status that he developed pre-Covid contributed to undiscerning glazing before that, maybe? But now it's a peak glaze-a-thon. Like at this point, he could drop a tape with just farts and no verses and an army of glazers would line up to convince themselves that it's the realest shit on earth. It's embarrassing.

it is a bit overboard, i did like this album a ton but is it bad for an album to just be a fun 45 or so minutes? why does it need to always be overly analyzed to the point of hyperbole?

I think he's cemented himself as one of the greatest to ever do it with the run of releases from Overly Dedicated through untitled unmastered. There was certainly a time where he was operating at peak craft/creativity, but that doesn't mean that what he's been dropping the last several years is amazing just because he did it, which seems to be the general sentiment with most of his fans today. There's no quality discernment there, just glaze.

def agree. his peak was untouchable and good for him if stuff like this is what he wants to make, it's just so lacking in comparison. it just feels so incredibly standard for him. just coasting knowing he can.

I think quite honestly he just doesn't wanna try too hard to keep topping himself. it's okay for an artist to just, make fun music. much as the critics may get mad at that, it's why bands like Blink-182 stayed around as long as they did

i think it's fine, it's just disappointing. it's just not interesting to me. he can do whatever he wants. and i'm also touching on the out of control glazing he gets for his stuff since damn which million is right his fanyboys say that output is of similar quality to the classic stuff.
