It’s a war.
I’ve never been for war.

I’m always puzzled by how many see no gray just black vs white.

You can hate Hamas and also call Israel a fascist apartheid state committing genocide against a community it doesnt like.
Of course if Israel was only attacking Hamas, we wouldn't be protesting, but of course Netanyahu just has to fill his "pile of children corpses" quota for the year.
As a Jewish person through my grandfather, all of us Jews have a responsibility to call out this absolute, disgusting, and vile pseudo-Nazi state that uses Anti-Semitism as a crutch to deflect from criticism towards its horrendous practices. We did it with Abimelech, we can do it with Netanyahu.

Tough to hate a group that was born out of said apartheid state’s fascistic reign

they aren’t going to stop until there’s nothing left. literal terror state.

can't but to empathise with hamas -- were it not for the horrors, it wouldn't even exist
also, "they won't kill you because you're a terrorist; they'll call you a terrorist so they can kill you", etc etc
and also, the horrors tend to promote regresive ideology proliferation -- were it not for israel, who knows how progresive palestine would be. Same with so many countries around the world -- the middle east, latin america, asia, et al

"I’m always puzzled by how many see no gray just black vs white."
Because that framing is almost always employed by those excusing the side of power in an assymetrical conflict. Yes, we know history and war is textured and complex, but if you're gonna excuse the acts of a violent and oppressive coloniser just say it out loud instead of hiding behind this fake liberal reason neutrality that tacitly reveals and undermines the morality of your own position anyway
War, history, is violent. Some win, some lose. Pick a side
Tldr: fuck Israel, fuck the USA and fuck their imperialist dogs in Europe too

always reassuring to know that there are still a few of us that see things as they are. we are surrounded, governed, and perpetually oppressed by *actual* terrorists, and while i don’t think that will ever change, i’m never going to stop bitching about it

@anarchistfish, I'm glad you know so precisely how I feel about oppression, killing innocent people and picking sides. Let's fuck everyone who's not "seeing the things as they are", let's fuck complete nations. In fact, let's also fuck the fuckers so that we take it to the max.
This album is still amazing.

Interesting "review". Kinda feel like Gyro on page 1 but much less intensely.

re: Gyro -- "I really hate these self righteous personal reviews with a passion. I get how it ties into the album title, but discuss the music."
Bands can definitely lose the plot with holier-than-thou messaging, but I think it's valid, and sometimes even necessary, to address why a piece of music feels important (personally and contextually) while discussing whether it's good. While everyone has different metrics, I think establishing the artist's intent is crucial to gauging an album's success. That said, this review does feel like the introduction to a more thorough piece.
"This could have just been a blog post"
Isn't that a core strength of Sputnik though? While the goal of Staff reviews and User reviews is generally the same -- "what is this and is it worth my time" -- I enjoy the professionalism of Staff reviews while welcoming more subjectivity and conversational tone in user reviews.

there is a reason people don't talk about the actual music on this album lol

yep, it’s nowhere near strong enough to stand on its own without the weight of ‘context’ or narrative surrounding it

The thing I don't like about this album in comparison to most of Godspeed's others is that the music doesn't match the context that it's presented in. For as serious as what the title stands for, the music isn't as brooding as you'd think it would be.

now that's a point I'm on board with.
