Yeah this one is even better than the new one, which also rules. Still gotta jam the debut.

Yknow I never did get around to the debut. I’m gonna have to change that, but I always got the vibe that it’s drastically different from the shit they’re putting out now… I dunno I think someone might’ve told me that? Idk why I’d have that impression otherwise… maybe another time. Today’s CAMGIRL day.

Saran Wrapped Cash is maybe my SOTY right now

Thinking about their debut again i think the sound is very much reminiscent of this one, but even tho the songs are very cool they arent as catchy as this or Camgirl
So many songs on Camgirl are SOTY contenders oh lord

I'm still preferring this album by quite a bit so far but I know this album took ages to grow on me.
I feel they've pushed both extremes in their sound - a song like 'Pretty in Pink' is the most melodic thing they've done and the most horror house noise stuff they've done spliced together.
Slight feeling the new one is a bit rushed because some ideas are incredible but then I feel there's a bit of mush/padding at times....like 'Pay Pigs' after that intro and with the melodic synth section that pops up should have been this album's 'Ottessa', but instead it just gets mushy under a truckload of short lived ideas. That song boasts the intro of the year but follows it with one of the biggest messes of the year.

I will say that sometimes their disjointed style actually annoys me when they have a killer riff/melody then never revisit it e.g. the different sections in pay pigs are cool individually but do seem a bit haphazardly stitched together
I even mentioned to Tony and Alyce on their livestream how they give me blueballs by busting out the nastiest riff then abandoning it in 30 seconds and they said that's the plan baby, so they aren't really interested in conventional song structures with repetition even though a few tracks here have more conventional structures than anything they've done before
Now you mention it I feel like if they put a bit of extra time into planning song structures and fleshing out ideas their new one could be truly untouchable
I guess that's the price you pay when you churn out about 20 tracks in 6 months
still my favorite album this year

I'll give it time, I don't mind unconventional song structures but it really depends how it all adds up...'Ottessa' was my favourite on the last one and wasn't a conventional structure.
'Padded Room' had about seven or eight killer choruses and a few on the new one have started bedding in but so far not getting that 'hit after hit' feeling quite yet.

Top 10 as of right now (please god let us get new converge)
1. Deafheaven - Lonely People With Power
2. Tropical Fuck Storm - Fairyland Codex
3. The Callous Daoboys - I Don’t Want to See You in Heaven
4. Crippling Alcoholism - CAMGIRL (room to move up tbh… don’t see it dethroning 1 or 2 tho)
5. Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You
6. Clipse - Let God Sort ‘Em Out
7. Deftones - private music
8. Jackal Twins - Cuzco
9. Backxwash - Only Dust Remains
10. Miley Cyrus - Something Beautiful
Special shoutout to the Perverts “EP” from Ethel, Sallow Moth, For Your Health, The Armed, Pool Kids, Maruja, Deadguy, and Nuvolascura… tbh any of these could easily take the number 10 and maybe 9 spot with more listens. Top 8 are all pretty solidly where I think they’ll end up.

camgirl is not good for my depression which is why i am taking a break from it for a while

Album Rating: 4.5
Funny because unlike their previous albums camgirl has some uplifting tracks (musically not lyrically) but it's definitely a depressing atmosphere overall, the uplifting aspects are like rays of sunshine filtering into a prison cell
I need to listen to tropical fuckstorm
I listened to the new deafheaven one religiously for a few weeks then felt no desire to listen to it ever again for some reason

1 and 2 are damn near interchangeable for me. Tropical Fuck Storm’s two albums following their amazing debut were both disappointing imo but Fairyland Codex is a fucking masterpiece and one of Gareth Liddiard’s best records ever.
