I don't listen to many screaming-only metalcore bands so that's probably why.

I'm pretty sure LoG is not metalcore.

"the riffs are more...riffy? It feels thrashier or something"
yea because they are a *sigh* groove metal band, which is essentially just a different kind of mid-paced thrash
would never call this band metalcore, even if they have some mxc influence like the breakdowns and vocals but even then it's mainly on the first couple of albums

Maybe it was partially because I was in a good mood today, but this album blew me away on second
listen. Easily the most enjoyable I've heard from them.
I guess you could say they are groove metal with hardcore influence...I just said metalcore because of the huge core influence.
The first half of this album is decent, but mid-way through, the band takes it to another level and doesn't stop from then on. When Descending starts, everything changes, and you can feel it.

Kinda forgot how awesome this album is. Forgotten(Lost Angels) is a personal favorite for me.

Walk with me in hell is so fun to play on guitar

Damn. I listened to this and then Ashes of the Wake within a few days of each other, and Ashes sucked compared to this. It's still a fun album but Sacrament is truly incredible.

nah it's definitely overrated, wayyyy too polished for one thing

Album Rating: 4.5
For "one thing"? That doesn't make sense. It's not even overly polished. I guess you like the underground hardcore production more.
Oh I see what you meant with one thing.
But definitely not over rated. It's 3.6. That makes it under rated at the least.

"I guess you like the underground hardcore production more."
i like the raw production of Palaces more. not sure if that's what you're referring too. I find they're the type of band who write dirty, somewhat southern style riffs and the sound has more of an impact when the production relects that. some of the songs on here are great, but it's too clean for my liking. takes away from it if anything

I wonder if it may be the headphones you use. I have headphones that lack some lower end bass and have a slight emphasis at 1KHz and some treble regions, so they usually make music that would be bloated in earbuds sound quite balanced. I mean, if we are talking about the guitar tone and bass/reverb here.
This album definitely sounds bloated with my in-ears if I disable my custom EQ (which I use on my MP3 player precisely for my in-ears. My desktop headphones don't need an EQ though)

blacken the cursed sun and descending are great songs. the rest is mostly forgettable imo

Opener and closer songs are probably among the best examples of merging groove metal with thrash

Album Rating: 4.5
This album has a lot of variety. Their other albums are the same shit every fucking song, mainly in their older stuff. Ashes of the Wake IS amazing, until 5 songs in you realize the band isn't going to play anything else and will just continue throwing the same thing at you. This one you can actually look forward to the mid point when Descending comes on. No idea why people like a repetitive album over this.

I actually thought this album didn't have enough variety. Walk with me in hell is gooooood

Album Rating: 4.5
Dude the second half of this album is as variety as you can get with this band. You should listen to Ashes in full and then this in full directly after and let me know about your comparison.

None of this bands albums are that diverse but if we're comparing than this is definitely the most diverse compared to the early ones

'second half of this album is as variety as you can get'
lovely sentence.

yeah i don't really listen to full albums by these dudes. mostly just find the jams, throw them on my workout playlist, and thats that
