feelings mutual smoky
I’ll comprise on bathory, I really haven’t heard much of them but still feel like I’ve heard enough. But Burzum is fucking terrible. It’s got nothing to do with Varg or any of that shit, it’s just fucking terrible music.

blood fire death is solid but im the biggest fan of his nordland albums ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
nordland ii is significantly better than i if u only listen to 1
self titled 26 min first trv bm album is also very good, as sophy and black mark, but if u want a general smorgasbord of his earlier bm recs then his jubileum I and II compilations are win, or the posthumous in memory...records for a general reign of his discog

but to be honest I never cared for most if not all of the kvlt old school 90’s whatever the fuck black metal. That I’ve heard at least I guess
The genre peaked with Deathspell Omega but of course they turned out to be Nazis too. I’m gay for good blackgaze too tbh. Oathbreaker and Deafheaven are a jam

I wanted to like Gaerea more than I did. They're great but they didn't do anything to really set themselves apart from a lot of modern bm, from what I could I hear. Now Blood Fire Death is fucking amazing. The riffs are just perfect.

I agree but I think that for what they lack in uniqueness they more than make up for with just being really fucking good at what they do. Seeing them this month and I’m stoked

call from the grave is the best song ever written

alright I guess I’ll just jam that album.
Also I listened to blood fire and death when I was way too young to be listening to black metal so maybe I didn’t appreciate it enough. I’ll give Bathory another chance.
Burzum still fucking sucks tho

"call from the grave is the best song ever written"
It's up there. The song just really opens up when that guitar solo and the harmonies after kick in.
@Wildcard: I love a couple of Burzum records but I totally understand where you're coming from, especially with the stuff I've seen you be really into on sput. It honestly took me 3 or 4 years to actually like black metal at all. I thought the riffs were interesting from the jump but it took a while for me to vibe with the vocals and aesthetics and obviously the politics in many pockets of the global scene don't make it very attractive. It took a long time for me to be able to listen through the barrier of shitty production too, however intentional. I was probably really getting into bm and retro punk stuff around the same time.
