HISTORY
Think Meshuggah as a pure death-metal band and you might get a slim idea of how Immolation would sound like. With deep, straight-on orchish growls, complexive guitar work and ingredients from Morbid Angel are some of the traits that Immolation has to offer. Formed in 1986 they entered the world of death-metal, not one of the most spectacular bands in the genre but after some good quality demos Immolation was starting to churn out albums. Most of the albums had their own special sound but they were all on the same track if you know what I mean.

Started listening to this for the first time yesterday. Now that I've jammed it 3 times through, I've settled on a 4/5, but this could potentially grow. Very fun album with amazing riffs and rhythm. Onward to Close to a World Below...

Anyone have a track highlight? Stench of High Heaven was definitely a standout to me.

Absolutely slays. Only previously heard CTAWB (which i love) and DAWN OF POSSESSION (which i didn’t quite love) before today. Jammed/re-jammed the first five albums today and wow, these guys might’ve just jumped the ranks in my favorite DM bands (an admittedly short list) on the strength of those albums alone. Still don’t love their debut - it’s good but everything thereafter is better imo.
Preliminary rank:
CTAWB > Unholy Cult > Failures for Gods > Here in After >> Dawn of Possession

I've never been able to really figure out if I like those weird kicks or if I dislike them lol truthfully everything else is top tier immo. The production is great. The songwriting. Its just those fucking clicking bass kicks.
