End the Transmission might be the worst song on here. It's pretty clear which solos are Chris', Bjorn isn't exactly a fretboard ripper, and Chris has a unique sense of melody oftentimes leaving you thinking, huh well that certainly is a note choice

"most of the solo work is Bjorn's iirc but I wouldn't be surprised if Chris wrote a few of them"
Just upon listening i really doubt this. The soloing sounds way different this album than it ever has. Plus, what I've read is that they wrote everything but they had Chris come in and lay down solos.
The only solos that sound like it might be Björn stylistically to me are dialogue and bleeding out

@dungeonboy
Yeah, his note choice is pretty distinctly different from Björn

"Yeah, end the transmissiom gives me slightly "this is our house" vibes with the chorus and I don't like that. The main riff is pretty good though"

Wow, this is a big surprise, I checked because a friend told me they were actually "back" and he wasn't THAT wrong, it is far from a masterpiece, really hit and miss and the clean vocals are pretty meh but other than that I could enjoy a few songs.

I honestly don't understand the whole In Flames is back thing for this record. It's not a return to their early years TJR-Clayman (or whatever you deem their last good album), and more inline with their middle era (Come Clarity-Sounds of a Playground Fading), so maybe if that's where you discovered In Flames, it would be back I suppose. If by back, you mean less commercial than the last 3, I could also see that.

I think it's only a true "return" in the sense that the song structures are rock solid again and have classic IF tropes, Bjorn is really the arbiter there. the unfortunate truth however is we have to resign ourselves to big cheesy choruses and terrible Anders lyrics in between these great instrumental moments. I don't think we'll ever get closer than this to Come Clarity -era glory. Comparing this to Clayman is generous though

Dafuq Flugmorph no this is exactly the album to try if you hated their recent stuff.
StormChaser at least try the song Foregone or The Great Deceiver. No clean vocal choruses in those.

Alright, now delving into this. I don't... hate it so far. Granted, it's not good by any means, and I definitely agree with previous comments on the whole "In Flames is back" remarks being anything but hyperbole, but it's serviceable at the very least.
