I did always assume it was a pay to play venture, I don’t know if there are any other barriers to entry mind you so I’m all for it in theory

after seeing this band live I just can't feel any hate, it's hardly like they're a cookie cutter conveyor belt act, however they got here they got here and they're more unique than I'd realised

I love this, finally had the chance to listen to it. Strong AOTY contender for me.

This is easily their best album and the one with the most immediate lasting appeal imo. Incredibly excited to get to hear some of these songs live soon along with BC,NR.

His drumming blows my mind on record, so seeing him live would be incredible.

It was incredible, I ended up watching from a side view and just focusing on his playing

Seeing them live was pretty wild. Came pretty damn close to tearing a couple times, but that's the excitement of live music.

Just saw on rym this and black country new road are top 1 and 2. . . man that site
black midi live are six times better, agreed

^ Is there any specific reason why this album is rated so highly there? I think it’s a good album but nowhere near the level of adulation it seems to be garnering there. RYM is a strange site in general, where great albums can just get lost to the 3.5 void and then others like this just seem to avoid the ‘casual’ listener lower scores.

lol yeah I've seen people rate metal albums a 0.5 or something and leave a review saying "I don't like this style of music."
So then... don't listen???

This just makes me want to listen to Foetus. I don't like this particular vocalist I suppose.

Dating back to Mars volta days I have an immediate suspicion of hip indie dudes coming down to "legitimize" genres I love for the people who never liked those genres. count deafheaven in that too
much like we dont need Jonathan franzen writing fantasy for the people who would scoff at mervyn peake or michael moorcock
But im considering checkin out these guys

both the dudes i know irl who keep talking about this band have never heard a rush or genesis album... skeptical...

as far as RYM ya that site has a cock ass community
random ass albums will make their way to people who got no business hearing them
