every time i listen to western nights and i'm like 'yeah this is probs the weakest song here' the 'i'd hold the gun if you asked me to / but if you love me like you say you do / would you ask me to?' line hits n i'm like oh shit guess it's cry time
I guess “Western Nights” is the least outwardly impressive song and maybe it suffers from following “A House in Nebraska” which is a similarly slow ballad but that builds to a big climax, but I just love songs like that which really go for a specific atmosphere/feeling and nail it. It toes the line between “boring/one note” and “so simple that it begs you to really focus on it” but for me totally lands in the latter.
