the point of this site is to share opinions...and...but that's the thing i just told you most classical music actually does keep my attention, its these dumb albums that people are recommending me on this site that are super pretentious ambient/post-rock that i can't get into. except for sigur ros (so far from what i've heard). also idg what you mean by b, doesn't that apply to alot of music?

its formulaic. its soft and then goes loud and then soft and there was nothing in between that actually grabbed your attention. its like a formula, "let's make this part all quiet and then let it build up" but there's no beauty within any of the actual notes. also there's no variation instrument wise, i feel like they use the same instruments for the whole album, it feels like the same notes even. they should switch things up a bit. also they should add like some degree of humility to their work, i feel it in the notes their thinking what they make is epic. and like...idk, they should add some occasional fast parts or maybe even some singing?

that entire part was in essence complaining about the fact that they achieve a specific sound throughout the album, that they aim for a certain effect. the point is that it is formulaic, they aren't like the bands you like which have different songs that have hooks and a vast range of styles. it has an overarching sound and I think you just find it hard to digest.

i think what shes saying is that godspeed put concept before the "human touch" in music--basically that their approach to "epic" is a little too cerebral or even a little too deliberated upon by the band. a lot of people like this because it gives gy!be that sort of "perfect" feeling but i dont see what the problem is in meriweather interpreting it as a little inhuman

the repetitive thing i find reasonable as well but it's not like i can really expand upon that beyond what she said

i wanted to try to get into ambient and post-rock because i got the impression that its supposed to be deeper, more beautiful music and i want to get into that more. idk maybe i indeed don't "get" it.

my point is that the whole over arching formulaic approach they have is what bothers her, and that that whole long bit could have been reducted to that.

whatever my point is she doesnt like it, screw the reasoning but you guys (guy?) are trying to get her
into a sort of unfair predicament by saying "well just admit you dont like 'albums with overarching
themes'" or whatever after which you can then dismiss her as a musical peasant or whatever (i know
this might not be your actual intent but is it really fair to give her the option "like this album for
these reasons or else you dont like [really broad category of albums]"?)

anyawys this rules

altho im still convinced merriweather is a troll because i remember her first list just totally being
that way
