Love “Hate to Feel.” Used to not think of it as much of a highlight, but it has become one of my favorites. Top 5 track for me on this album for sure.

I'm with the others on junkhead. Massive goddamn chorus

Agreed hard.
It wouldn't be a stretch to think some of the metal bands that showed up in the 2000's and on have listened to this.
It's prob my #2 rock/metal album of 1992.

Hate to Feel has always been one of my favorites tbh. When it comes to this album, the doomier the better imo... so slower cuts like Junkhead, Hate to Feel, Sickman, and Rain When I Die have always been among the highlights for me

After over five years I think I finally sort of kind of get it. I don’t know what changed.
This is still by far not one of my favourite albums though. I do have my issues with it.

tbh man I really don’t know what issues you could have with this band unless you just straight up hate Layne’s vocals or can’t stand more conventional songwriting, like I get if you’re into more experimental shit that doesn’t really follow the whole
“verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo-verse-chorus” structure… because Jerry is a fucking riff god imo, there’s not a single lackluster or even average riff here, and the rhythm section here is so goddamn good. I don’t think anyone will ever say that Sean is their favorite drummer or either of the Mikes are their favorite bassists, but they hold it down so well. Amazing chemistry from the entire band. And I mean, goddamn Jerry and Layne had some truly insane vocal harmonies.
And even then there’s a few examples of songs here that don’t use that traditional songwriting structure, and even more follow on Jar of Flies and Tripod.
I mean, to me this band has not only one but two generational talents. Layne is probably my favorite rock vocalist of all time and Jerry is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. One of the goat rock/metal bands imo

No judgement, but I’d really be interested to hear your negative thoughts on this beyond it being “boring”, because that doesn’t really say a whole lot. I don’t really know too many people into rock and metal, especially old heads, that would call Alice “boring”.

Sean Kinney is great. I wouldn't call him my favorite drummer but he's pretty S tier tbh

Just stays in the pocket and doesn’t ever do more than he needs to. Tbh I have massive respect for drummers that know exactly what to do and don’t get flashy just for the sake of it.

I've been backing up ratings to RYM in case we ever lose this site, and man, is it normal for every single album on RYM that's generally considered to be a classic, to be full of extremely aggressive, condescending, ranty, pretentious reviews / comments. I can't believe how negative people are about everything over there compared to the comment sections here.
Sean Kinney is fantastic, Would? is one of my favorite grooves of all time. The accents like at 30 seconds in, as the vocals hit, the rise into the chorus. Doesn't overdo anything, just perfect for such a top tier song.

I think they just have a larger, impersonal user base. More likely to find music lovers trying out critically acclaimed albums that are not their cup of tea and being vocal about it.
Sput has its share of shitters too lol
And agreed Kinner is underrated as a musician, just the perfect fit for this band

Yep, I don't play drums, but I consider his feeling to be one of his biggest strengths as a drummer. Blended perfectly with Layne and Jerry's vox.
