I think this is one of Erra weaker outputs. I mean it's good, technically. But it misses what makes Erra special - great melodies, great atmosphere, a certain catchiness etc. This goes a lot more into the djent direction which lacks a lot on individuality and personality in my opinion. Also the harder songs like "Scorpion Hymn" just feel a bit misplaced for ERRA. It's not a bad song but it doesn't feel like ERRA here.
I am also missing some catchy, melodic parts that stick to my brain. But there are none.

hard disagree on the catchiness part these hooks havent left my head since release date, in addition to how hooky the riffing and rhythms are. massive, massive tunes all around
how do you feel about impulse and augment?

Huh, interesting you like Drift and Neon more than this. You're listening to the beta version of ERRA tho. Upgrade to alpha ERRA with Impulse and Augment

yea as much as i love and adore this its still 3rd, but impulse and augment are my two favorite albums by anybody so they were never gonna be topped anyway without garrison and alan
but godddamn is jesse going hard on this. this is probably the most ive ever liked any record upon release i still jam this allllll the time. record is like perfectly constructed ear candy designed to cater exactly to my taste both in and out of the genre and im so happy it dropped when i was a fan

yeah this is such a ridiculous step up from drift and neon. i kinda thought they had it in them after eye of god but this went above and beyond blowing this lineups other material out of the water

Sort of agree Coldday. This is definitely not as good as Drift that's for sure.

@onionbubs - I would not compare those both in terms of musicationship and technical expertise etc. I'd say that Drift or Augment & Impulse sound completely different. They have a different overall ERRA - sound and a different band sound - production-wise! This ERRA-record just sounds unusual, unfamiliar "hard" for Erra. The songs here are pretty aggressive and the production also sounds more "in-your-face". And I PERSONALLY prefer the old, more lush, melodic ERRA more than the djeny, hard ERRA style.
The guitar work is amazing here, sure. But it just doesn't stick to my head and I just don't get warm with it. I don't know... but it's a good record for what it is.

You hit the nail on the head man. This album is like ERRA trying to make their best August Burns Red impression. Sure it has previous Erra album charms but the overall sound does not suit them as much as their previous lush sound.

You use good adjective where bad adjective should be. Me confuse

fair @coldday i typically in my head try not to compare this to their first two as well since that pretty side of alans writing is just straight up gone (not to mention losing garrison, who imo was the best ever). was moreso j curious if you were on board w the old ones as i was too lazy to actually check your ratings lol

Production on drift is much more stagnant, while this one’s more dynamic imo, but neons production is by far the worst
