"ah right, though to say that he's that influential sounds like an overstatement"

drake basically ripped his sound from him. i can't see how this druggy waved out rap would exist as popularly as it does without the weeknd. overstatement or not his influence is generally underestimated

Listening back on HoB and wow... You guys were right. Blows this out of the water. Still love this album tho, and it revived my interest in this guy's music.

I sincerely hope anyone that's just now started listening to the mixtapes doesn't listen to them as the trilogy available on the streaming services

I’m not gonna lie, I thought The Weeknd was a huge tool until my best music buddy and band member forced me to digest half of Starboy, and the rest is history. I liked Wicked Games way back in the day, but haven’t listened to much else from that era.

"It's a venn diagram of two camps" that doesn't really make sense, venn diagrams can be used to illustrate the differences between two things, or the similarities."

Most importantly they show how big an overlap is, in this case people that have been listening since the beginning | liking After Hours | people that found The Weeknd later.

Obviously these aren't mutually exclusive. I happen to be in the first category exclusively, but that doesn't mean everybody like me is.

And seeing the "what EPs" comments, I guess my hunch was correct :D

This is a mature step up lyrically. I'm loving this. Abel is finding his sound in his pop era. Both albums before this seemed inconsistent with sound, like he was trying to do too much or sometimes not enough. This album does not suffer from that at all. I mean, it's not completely cohesive, but this rollout of songs, is for sure a step in the right direction! Coming from a long time Weeknd fan, I can say this is his best album as of right now. Balancing his dark roots and pop/RnB blend for an immersive experience of an album with immaculate production.

Best tracks - Faith, Blinding Lights, After Hours.

Am I the only user that rates things that I enjoy and never bother to rate things below a 3. Like I would never bother to rate a nickelback album.
