Damn, they just posted rehearsal footage for Fires of Frustration. I believe this is the first footage of the band playing ever. No vocalist:

Daaaaaamn! That gotta be one of the most anticipated videos of all time for black metal fans. Wow! It's crazy how calm they are while playing such complex music, wouldn't have expected less though, legends

if Mikko wrote the lyrics this album would've been called The Funniness of Pedophilia

Feel like this one gets lost in the DSO shuffle but fuck it still rules so much.

I actually listen to this one a lot. One of the catchiest and easiest to listen to albums by them. It's a lot more subdued than some other LPs, generally. Ad Arma has oodles of groove. 1523 and Standing on the Work of Slaves are just beautiful. The 1984-esque narrative, too, is an interesting departure from the earlier subject matter, giving it a fresh aesthetic.

Sad that it seems like nothing is coming of it. I’d love to even just see more full band “rehearsals”

Like why just drop that and stay silent for over a year

Edit: smh it’s been in the description the whole time

“ A little over five years ago, Deathspell Omega returned from Brittany after recording The Furnaces of Palingenesia.

Afterwards, the band started rehearsing to prepare for a series of concerts. Line-up complications eventually doomed the attempt at performing this particular album live.

The following video of the song The Fires of Frustration is an internal working document – the kind produced when musicians are scattered across a continent. The recording device was a smartphone.

While the idea of concerts for Furnaces is now water under the bridge, we can at least divulge a fraction of what we were working on. The performance itself reflects the early phase of a series of rehearsals and, as such, is not flawless.”

Insane honestly, I’m sure it wasn’t completely “flawless” but it looked pretty fucking close to me
