Aaayyeeeee, I was very scared and apprehensive, had low expectations. Luckily the album surprised me in a good way.

But you haven't really loved any of their output since Watershed, right?

idk why I even buy their new releases anymore. I don't enjoy them because I'm not a 40 year old dad.

Agreed with Plebs assessment of their ‘10s albums. Heritage is a classic in a sense though it isn’t perfect in my eyes but better than the following three including this. This is close tho, very dynamic and feels like they’re taking risks again like in Heritage

Yup, that's what I love about it too, the taking risks (and succeeding!) part.

Haha Hellscythe!

Yeah close to a classic, it has the vitality that comes with experimentation

This is growing on me but I still feel that it's a little contrived like someone said earlier. And that's the main problem I have with the last few albums. Albums like BWP, GR, damnation sound like they came naturally. A lot of this feels like they're trying too hard. But I'd rather see them take risks than play it safe and im digging this considerably more than sorceress

That drum pattern in the first minute and a half of Kontinuerlig Drift/Continuum is totally awesome.

I am happy they’re bringing back the beefy, more metal sounding riffs that’ve been absent since Watershed. This almost feels like the sequel to that album. Production feels much more like Ghost Reveries/Watershed Opeth to me. This was a pleasant surprise because I wasn’t expecting much at all. Still would’ve loved at least one growl section on it. People would’ve freaked if Mikael snuck that in and it wouldn’t feel out of place on some tracks.

Heritage was garbage and I stand by that as of my most recent listen (prob 2016ish). Pale Communion was just forgettable and pointless. Sorceress showed potential but didn't really go anywhere.

This is like Watershed minus the growls, and I can more than live with that.
