The breakdown segment is pretty lol though, just feels empty.

I'm bumping it. Read through the lyrics today and there's great stuff on here. The last two slipknot records were missing content this personal from Corey. That divorce must have been ROUGH.

I still think "Not Long for This World" should have been the closer instead of "Solway Firth"; just swap them in the order and everything's good.

@Gonzo yeah it’s a sweet album, easily their since Vol. 3 m/

I think both work great as closer. Solway feels like a massive firework show finale

"It is pandering towards the masses though, really hooky chorus which is really reminiscent of Stone Sour."
They've always had choruses with strong hooks. If anything, Corey took that energy and made Stone Sour out of the positive reception to songs like Wait and Bleed, Spit it Out, My Plague, and Left Behind.

I can see that.

Those choruses are less sugary in comparison though, I dig the track anyway so it’s fine haha.

It's weird seeing people say they dont like this because it strays too close to Stone Sour, meanwhile I literally cannot tolerate their music

Only Unsainted does, the rest are mostly Slipknot through and through.

Definitely different flavors, agreed. Just surprised when some people claim Slipknot's never been about clean vocals or hooks when it's been present the entire time. EDIT: Not saying you are, just something I've noticed in other comments.

Most of their tracks follow a verse, chorus, verse structure so yeah, the hooks are prevalent like you said.

"does slipknot still think they have a shot at chart relevance? lol"
Every album they have since 2001 has debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard charts and all their albums have been certified multiplatinum - gold? So yes, I would think they believe they have a good shot lmao.

It's not pandering to anyone, Slipknot has always had accessible choruses.

2. Orphan
3. Nero Forte
4. Birth of the Cruel
5. Death Because of Death
6. Unsainted
7. Critical Darling
8. A Liar’s Funeral
9. Red Flag
10. What’s Next
11. Spiders
12. All Out Life
13. My Pain
14. Not Long for This World
15. Solway Firth

My Pain is too goddamn long. There are a lot of tracks that need trimming, but that one could be like 2:30

And I agree that Slipknot has always had accessible choruses (should not be a point of contention tbh), but this album has sooooo many forgettable ones. They used to be better at catchy melodies.
(Even AHIG may have the upper hand in that department, because I can’t think of any choruses here that are as iconic as Psychosocial)

Well, this is alot better than previous releases but it's not anything special.
The drums on the whole record are so damn lackluster. "Red Flag" is the only instrumentally interesting song imo.

This is just good fun all the way through. It's nice to see they actually evolved while staying true to their sound. The verses on Unsainted fuck ahrd
