Agreed both of you. This and Suspiria really took things to another level already for his solo career, really started living up to his work in Radiohead. Even tho I really like Eraser and Boxes as well, they’re just more one-dimensional and less ambitious than his later 2010s stuff.

id argue The Eraser lives up to that too and that Modern Boxes is the outlier. I really adore that record.

You adore Eraser? Is that your favorite Yorke album?

Given time this could potentially rival it but as it stands, yes, for sure.

I can see that. I guess it has that ambition too. It’d be my favorite if his except I feel like the second half is pretty inconsistent for me until the closer. First half is pretty fantastic tho

really!? i think the second half is just as strong. skip divided grew to be my favourite track on the album over time. atoms for peace is solid, and both it rained all night and harrowdown hill are two highlights for me. and of course cymbal rush is an incredible closer

Skip Divided is probably my least favorite. Atoms for Peace is alright. I used to really like It Rained All Night but it grew off me. It might need to grow again. Cymbal Rush is fantastic, Harrowdown is pretty good. Idk I may have to give the songs more tries, haven’t listened to the whole things in a while. First four songs are wonderful tho

I think The Eraser is the more consistent album... this has a drop in quality and cohesion after The Axe imo

However, the highs here (Twist, Not the News) are better than anything on Eraser

The second half of Twist-onward is consistently excellent imo

People itt have said this starts with the two weakest tracks. I rather think it ends with them. Traffic and Last I Heard rule man

They’re both alright songs, but the album really transforms into something special at 3:55 of Twist.

I agree with the notion that The Eraser is a marginally more consistent album experience, this does indeed tail off slightly, but I still enjoy it throughout. Flows well, maintains the atmosphere. Subtlety over bluster definitely works in its favour in that regard, stays grounded.

Considering Thom has churned this and that Suspiria soundtrack out in a year makes me think he really is one of the all time greats. Fair fucks to the bloke.
