Despite them not reinventing the wheel, I'd definitely say they managed to create somewhat of their own signature. I mean, I can definitely recognize Obliteration when they're playing.

Obliteration and Horrendous sound nothing alike.

And, yes, in their own particular ways, they both rule.

They are both of the same genre and came out in the same year so they must be compared no matter what

I think the comparison is pretty fair tbh as both bands are in the same OSDM shindig, however their approach differs a lot so I guess I can see why you'd also think it's slightly dumb lol

I don’t find them to be really similar at all other than the fact that they’re both modern dm bands releasing albums in the same time frame. Horrendous is way more progressive and melodic whereas these guys have bm and doom influences.

Of course they're different. I just arguing against how these guys are seemingly held up as the pinnacle of OSDM revival when they offer nothing we haven't heard before, whereas Horrendous' have a 'classic' sound that actually deviates from the norm & pushes the genre forward somewhat.

How does Horrendous differ from the norm??? I mean they rule but come on lol. They’re a prog dm band, we’ve heard that before.

I agree with Demon on this one, it's the same feeling I'm getting listening to both these bands.

When I listen to Horrendous I'm hearing more of a unique sound than when I listen to this band, that's the logic I suppose but as you say, m/m/m/m/

I love Horrendous, I just don’t see how they’re unique lol.

In my opinion both Obliteration and Horrendous take an already existing dish, but both add their own "spice", their own "kick" to the dish so you know you're eating something you already ate before but it's still tangible enough to set itself apart.

It's like eating pasta all'amatriciana at uncle Carmine's or at uncle Giuseppe's; both are essentially pasta all'amatriciana but you can still tell who cooked the plate. Know what I'm saying?
