@YourDark I love your take and I really don't want to detract or talk down on it, but Michael is basically a cover of two old Negro spirituals with some furious fear-mongering thrown in, it's about slavery (and, this part is my take, also very explicitly about the state of affairs in America right now re: unarmed black people being killed)
I say all this because I want to do nothing but talk about that song, I am pretty much obsessed with it to an unhealthy degree lol

Damn I think you're onto something there YourDark
Also I thought about mixing the best of the LP with the best of the EP but the approaches in tempo are just too different to mesh IMO

Also what Freddie said was always what I took from the song, regardless of whether that's right or not

as someone on the previous page said, a band writing a song with that title and those lyrics in 2009 was a pretty big deal, and i would argue remains a big deal today
plus it is just the most joyous thing

If ya wanna talk about joyous, Every Thought A Thought Of You makes me stupidly happy, that song is like joy personified to me
Also yeah I didn't mean to come off like I definitively know what it's about lol, it's very possible that it's probably both! Aaron is so audacious and referential so who knows

Not to sound too creepy, but I follow Mike Weiss' instagram for his guitar videos and he posts a lot of family pics which have included names of his wife and kids. They match the names Aaron addresses in the lyrics on Michael, Row Your Boat Ashore
but yeah, probably several levels going on, knowing Aaron

Yeah, the song is literally him and Michael catching up about each other and their family and Aaron telling Michael “look, I’m not doing so well.”
“Your little brother can’t paddle anymore” = Aaron, suffering a mental breakdown
Anyway, I only just figured this out today after a month. Welcome to mewithoutYou.

Coincidentally, "Your little brother can't paddle anymore" is the summary to my review and my favorite lyric on the album lol, and it's of course even more powerful than I initially realized. Holy shit this band.
