i think to say they're quirky for the sake of it kinda reduces how genius they dudes (and especially will) really are

and @Spirit: I don't even take the pseudo-intellectual bent of Tool's music all that seriously, that isn't gonna cut it for me. lol

Oh right, I forgot. Sput needs their DGD echo chamber in full force, away from those mean cynics.

I feel like the only person here who didn't really care for the last two these guys put out.
instant gratification is a fuckin' jam tho

@Jam: have you read the thread? I'm not all that hot on this or Mothership.
|
| |
I did just after I posted that actually haha
I always preferred the Kurt albums too. S/T and Happiness are top tier DGD. Though I'd say Mess sounds better now than he did on the first few records

Yeah, these days he's easier to deal with, excluding Mothership because he definitely sounded a bit annoying to me there.

Deathbat you can't get mad that people like good music

I'm not though. Forget how shitty of a person R. Kelly was, there's no way he actually has TWELVE 5/5's.

I'm not talking about that but okay.

When in today's conversation was I "mad" on this thread about people disagreeing with me though? The closest I got was that quip about Drifter fanboying over a fucking sex predator's music.

"Calling the band quirky for the sake of being quirky"
That's how I've seen these guys ever since I started trying to get into them, so I wouldn't say it's me being mad really.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Dance Gavin Dance. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of math rock most of the jokes will go over a typical listener's head. There's also Jon's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Weezer literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Dance Gavin Dance truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Jon's existential catchphrase "Meow Meow Boo," which itself is a cryptic reference to Rivers Cuomo's epic Blue Album. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Will Swan's genius wit unfolds itself on their iPods. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Dance Gavin Dance tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎
