Lol people defending or justifying the production, it’s so clearly shit. It’s honestly hard to believe I have files any larger than 3mbs a song. That said. I still really like the record and it doesn’t bother me a ton. It’s just funny that people act like it’s unnoticable.

Never listened to these guys. Don't really care that much about pop punk. Is this good enough of a listen despite that?
|
| |
this is their least pop punk album, probably only 2 or 3 songs that could fit that descriptor
theyre just an alt rock band now

nah this brand of alt rock (alt rock bands that sound like they came outta pop punk) generally kinda sucks. hardly fuckin sonic youth

This album is like Manchester Orchestras latest with more yelling. I can see people identifying with these lyrics and falling in love with it but I just can't connect personally
This guy ditch the nickname soupy
yet btw?

Is this actually good
|

last album is better

I like it a lot after first listen, but does anyone else think the production is actually kinda crap? Reminds me of Captain We're Sinking's "The King of No Man" that came out last year. Very messy, muddled, mixed poorly.
Songs are lit tho.

Question. What's the reason for production like this? They're a pretty popular band with a big enough label, and The Greatest Generation sounded sublime. So, how does this happen? Is it because of a rushed timeline, or is it legitimately an artistic choice, or is it something else?

Doubt it's a rushed timeline, NCTH came out 2.5 years ago. I think was just a bad choice, but I don't know who made it. I remember Dustin from Thrice saying The Artist in the Ambulance was mixed awfully and he hated how it sounded...maybe the band secretly hates how this mix came out.

I do really like The Orange Grove. A lot of this feels flat though. Maybe the production issues everyone is talking about.

Yeah, the production is kinda lacking, but it doesn't bother me at all. My album of the year so far, honestly.

So many of these songs feel like they have counterparts to me, especially from NCTH
Raining in Kyoto - Dismantling Summer (Lyrics only)
Flowers Where Your Face Should Be - You in January
We Look Like Lightning - A Song for Patsy Cline
When the Blue Finally Came - No Closer to Heaven
The Orange Grove - Palm Reader
The Ocean Grew Hands to Hold Me - Cigarettes and Saints
