I love this band. It's just this album that I dislike.

i get it. the lyrics are very blunt and the songs are fairly generic pop punk. i just happen to love the songs and lyrics on the record, but it is an album that i can see being horrible to someone else. gotta say it is definitely album cover of the year
this is one of my albums of the year but who knows once alkaline trio rolls around

Yeah, from my side I can also see how some could connect with this album. It's just not for me.

Yeah I didn’t vibe with the album the first couple times I heard it, so I get it too. I didn’t start to really engage with it until seeing a couple songs off this played live then it all clicked at once.

i have to say tho that the closing track is song of the year so far tho jesus christ if they made an album exclusively in that style

The band excels at making closing tracks.

yeah waiting room and the fire are the only two albums that don't end on the album's best song, and hold on is still in my top 5 senses fail (and blackout is still also really really good)
god damn the fire is underrated

The Fire is super duper average in my opinion.
I think Pull the Thorns is nearly a masterpiece but I've never met any SF fans who share that opinion, or even think it's better than Renacer.

the fire has been my fav senses fail since i first heard it
stylistic culmination of everything i love about them. pop punk songs like headed west and saint anthony are amazing, metalcore songs like lifeboats and coward are my favorite songs they've done, and the lyrics are the most real they've done, as it's the album of buddy's rock bottom which reeeeeeeeeeeally shows on lifeboats and coward especially (and hold on and the t/t to a lesser extent). it's the record with the most conviction for sure and absolutely the one i connected with the most

Pull the Thorns is pretty darn good but it doesn’t keep me engaged throughout for some reason. I just never feel much of a need to revisit it. Wounds off that album is one of my faves though

pull the thorns is my least fav for like basically the opposite reason. both that and this have the whole "i was depressed but i've gotten through it and you can too" thing going on, but it's waaaaaay more blunt on pull the thorns and the metalcore sound really jars with that style to the point where it sounds super super corny throughout the album, over songs that already feel like renacer b sides

tbh I've only listened to it like once so I'll have to listen to it again lol

the worse you feel about yourself the more it hits ya
finding it super cool that senses fail fans seem to share completely different opinions about which albums they connect with and which ones they dont. they really are a special band

""i was depressed but i've gotten through it and you can too""
Hence my love for the album. And I like that they took the raw aggression from Renacer and tamed it by adding more melodic parts. The songwriting is kind of all over the place, but that's another thing I love about it.
There is really an album for everyone by this band.

weird cos the lyrics on this album and that album are basically the same thing, but i much prefer how it sounds on this album. part of that however is that i mostly just listen to metalcore for more cathartic stuff (which is why the best off the fire reeeeally clicks) where i think the lyrics really hit home paired with the pop punk sound, plus the hooks are massive. i also think the added context of him talking about what he struggled with give the lyrics so much more weight, and the closer is really what pushes the whole thing over the edge for me

Even if the lyrics are of similar content he's not screaming shit like "MY SWEET PENELOPE!!" on that one, lol.
