there are a few parts of some songs that are pretty sweet but overall this isn't worth listening to when there's Deathspell and Ulcerate...

except for the fact that is wildly different than both of those bands

Portal have nothing in common with Deathspell and Ulcerate imo.
Sure, dissonance is a core part of the collectives sound but they all utilise it in very different ways.

I'm mostly referring to the density of sound. None of the three bands have a sound that is easy to grasp, and each band has layers that need to be listened for to appreciate the entire piece.
With a degree of skepticism I checked out Outre and found it much more enjoyable, and more immediately satisfying.

You’ll probably like Swarth too then

I listened to this and wasn't paying attention to what track was playing. Can anybody tell me which track is the one that has the spiraling sounding guitar (the guitar comes out of this ambient sort-of part in the album) it sounds SUPER twisted. Like a horror film. I really like it.
My favorite part of the album. I think it's the ending to one of the songs. I could be wrong though.
|
| |
Side note, if this band were just creating noise and chaos haphazardly for fun that'd be one thing but the fact that they're apparently very studied and meticulously craft each song, sound, and concept makes them much more intriguing to me.

Damn, page break. I'll repeat this:
