people keep mentioning allegations and rumors but not saying what they are and I cannot find anything about them on the internet



edit: ok, I've found a thread on metal archives about it but it's still pretty vague and mostly just referencing a bunch of deleted reddit threads

I haven't followed the band all that closely so I haven't heard of any allegations, but if there are allegations then the repeated mentions of "he hasn't been himself" take on a pretty ominous tone. Not sure I've ever rooted for someone to be depressed and not just pretending to be depressed to wriggle out of accountability, but it's 2022 and here we are.

I'm still confused about the allegations, all I can find are vague references to the category of the crime, if I can use the word "category", but you know what I mean.

Can't find anything that spells out exactly what the accusations are which is kinda odd. Anything in that "category" is bad obviously, but where does the allegation lie on a scale of 1 to 10? If we use Jimmy Page as a 1 and Jimmy Saville as a 10

The latest GoFundMe goal for Anathema's supposed new album now stands at 70k. A truly ridiculous amount, even more so now when it looks like it all goes to DC himself. No one else from the band ever mentions anything about their involvement with this new album or whatever. I even donated once but I don't think anything'll come of it though.



Just wish this whole situation gets more context in the near future.

The bands basically dead, everyone but Danny and maybe one other guy left Anathema. Pretty sure the bridges between Danny and everyone else have been torched to the ground due to whatever happened.

I see what you mean... they're being pretty shady about whether this is actually Anathema or Danny working solo under the Anathema name with random backing musicians.



From Facebook on 8 June: "The band line up is complete, but we will say nothing more about this until the album is released."



Why? If the band was actually back together, why would it be a secret? If it's "Danny and the cheapest band he can find covers Anathema"... you'd want to keep that a secret until you've milked all the cash you can from the fans. A Danny solo album probably wouldn't generate $70K in donations.

What a bizarre situation for this once great band. They’re not even acknowledging any of the abuse allegations or whether Danny is still in the band it seems.

From the Facebook page, it seems like Danny is the only one acknowledged to be in the band... maybe I'm misreading. If the sister was still in the band why would they be using guest female vocalists? So she, at least, seems to be out. The linked gofundme page lists Daniel Cavanagh as the soul Beneficiary.

Sounds like they already did, and Danny is now using the name for solo albums.

Save for the bleep of Distant Satellites, imho band has been artistically dead for almost twenty years.

Oh shit.... I love their debut but starting with "We're Here Because We're Here" and ending with "Distant Satellites", that's probably one of the most consistently high quality trilogies of albums I've ever heard.

Weather Systems has always been my fave, so much emotion on that one.

It sure seems like the band's gone for good. Too bad as I was so eager to see them again live, on the WHBWH anniverary tour no less. Sad that they went out like this.
