Maybe I can kidnap them, take them to the mountain and force them to play next to the fire. You in Evo?

Went through a brief period where I was worried about handing this a 5 so soon. Those worries have been easily quelled. Crack-Up is even more gorgeous 4 months later and will be very, very close to the top of my 2017 AOTY list. I just can;t get enough of the classical/progressive influences here.

I need to revisit this, it fell out of my rotation pretty quickly tbh. It just never hit me quite as hard as I wanted it to; I still think Helplessness Blues is very much the superior, and I honestly might even prefer the debut, if only slightly.

Why do I like this? Is it cos the melodies, harmonies and general vibe put it amongst the greatest things I’ve ever heard or is it cos I’m a total cunt?
I’ve used the noun vibe and in saying i’ve used the noun vibe to categorically state my opinions and furthermore use categorically to reinforce my point I’ve obviously turned into a massive cunt.
Cunt. Bin it.

This is by far the best thing they've put out, it's like all of the most lush and interesting parts of Helplessness Blues mashed together
The vocals are still a weak point for me but they're def more interesting here than usual

The vocals give me classic folk rock vibes, love them. Tillman leaving was the best thing to happen to this band.

They seem to be actively trying to be old-timey too hard but they're solid at times

Why would Tillman leaving have such an impact on the songwriting? Robin Pecknold writes like everything.

Yeah Tillman had a pretty minor influence on the overall sound and direction and was only with them for one album (which happens to be their best one too)
